How to Connect Amazon Seller Central to ChatGPT or Claude (2026)
Last updated:
TL;DR: You cannot hand ChatGPT your Seller Central password, and no tool should ask you to. What you actually do is authorize a connector app through Amazon's own SP-API login, then add that connector to a compatible AI client using a standard called MCP. From there, the AI can look up your real inventory, fees, and orders when you ask — read-only unless you explicitly grant more, and nothing changes in your account without your approval. Here's the exact chain, step by step, plus what to check before you trust any of it.
What MCP is, in two sentences
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard way for an AI chat tool to call out to an external app and get back real data or take a defined action, instead of only working from what's typed into the chat. Applied to Amazon, it means ChatGPT or Claude can ask a connector "what's this seller's current inventory for SKU X" and get a real, current answer, instead of guessing.
The prerequisite chain, honestly
There is no version of this where you type your Seller Central email and password into ChatGPT. The actual chain has three separate authorizations, and skipping any of them means the connection doesn't work:
- Amazon → the connector app. You log into Amazon's own authorization page (not the connector's site) and grant a specific app — in this example, Limonene — permission to read (and optionally act on) your seller account via SP-API, Amazon's official developer API. This is the same mechanism any legitimate third-party Amazon tool uses; it is not unique to AI.
- You → the connector's own account. The connector needs its own login (email, or a similar sign-in) so the data it holds is tied to you, not to whoever happens to be chatting.
- The AI client → the connector, via MCP. You add the connector's MCP endpoint inside your AI client's own connector or settings menu. This is the step that actually lets ChatGPT or Claude ask it questions.
Only after all three are in place does "ask ChatGPT about my Amazon store" produce a real answer instead of a guess.
Requirements
- A Limonene account with your Amazon store connected and already synced (first sync needs to finish before there's anything for the AI to read).
- A ChatGPT or Claude account on a plan that supports custom/remote connectors — this is currently a paid-tier feature on both, and availability can depend on your specific workspace or plan, so check your client's connector settings if you don't see the option.
- The connector endpoint: https://limonene.app/api/mcp
Step by step
- Connect and sync your store to Limonene first, if you haven't. The connector has nothing to answer questions from until your store's data has synced at least once.
- In your AI client, open its connector settings — in ChatGPT this is currently under Settings → Connectors (or similar, subject to change); in Claude, Settings → Connectors. Look for an option to add a custom or remote MCP connector.
- Enter the endpoint, https://limonene.app/api/mcp, and complete the authorization prompt — this is where you sign in and confirm what you're granting.
- Choose the access level: read-only or read-and-manage (see below). Start with read-only if you're unsure; you can raise it later.
- Ask it a real question — "what's my current FBA sellable inventory for [SKU]" is a good first test, since you can check the answer against Seller Central yourself.
Exact menu names and steps shift as AI providers update their UI; if this doesn't match what you see, look for "connectors," "tools," or "MCP servers" in your client's settings.
Read-only vs. manage, and why the line matters
A read-only connection exposes a small, fixed set of investigation tools — six, in Limonene's case — covering things like inventory levels, order and sales lookups, fee and profit data, and reimbursement/ledger status. It cannot change anything in your Amazon account.
A read-and-manage connection adds tools that can propose actions — price changes, reimbursement case filing, and similar — and the exact number available depends on which features are enabled for your store, up to around 57 tools in total. The critical part: every proposed change is previewed to you in plain language before anything happens, and nothing executes on its own. If a connector ever lets an AI change your prices or file a case without a confirmation step you actually saw, that is not a safe setup, regardless of which vendor built it.
What the AI provider sees, and whose policy applies
Once connected, a question you ask and the data the connector returns to answer it become part of that conversation, subject to whatever data handling and retention policy your AI provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, or otherwise) applies to your account and plan. That's true of any tool you paste business numbers into, connector or not — it's just easier to forget when the data arrives automatically instead of by copy-paste. Read your AI provider's own data policy if you're pasting or connecting sensitive figures, and prefer read-only until you're comfortable with what a management connection would expose.
How to revoke it
Two places, and check both:
- In the connector app (Limonene: account settings → connected apps), revoke the AI client's access. This invalidates the connection immediately.
- In your AI client's own settings, remove the connector entirely so it stops appearing as an option in future chats.
If a tool doesn't make both of these easy to find, treat that as a warning sign before you connect it to anything financial.
A note on "directory listed" and who else does this
Some AI providers maintain public directories of approved or verified connectors; as of this writing, Limonene's listings in those directories are under review, not live — the direct connection above works today in compatible clients regardless of directory status, which is the normal state for a connector this new. Limonene is also not the only Amazon-to-AI connector: DataDoe, Windsor.ai, agentcentral, and other vendors offer similar bridges with their own scopes, pricing, and permission models. If you're evaluating more than one, compare exactly what each exposes read-only versus what it can change, not just how fast the setup is.
Set up the connection — read-only by default, revoke any time.
